The Waiting Game


With the expansion of the league this season to 9 teams, it lends itself to the unique situation of having a ‘spare’ team every weekend.

Football fans are creatures of habit. Saturdays at 3pm is the bedrock on which the English  game is built on.

The WSL saw fantastic growth in the 2015 season, with attendances up on the back of the Women’s World Cup. However, these gains are at risk of being lost with the current scheduling of the 2016 season.

For instance Chelsea Ladies kicked off their season on the 24th March against Doncaster Belles. By the time Doncaster Belles play another league game on 27th April, Chelsea will already have played an extra two league games. Perhaps more pertinent is that fellow promoted side Reading will be kicking off their 4th game at the same time. It is a common consensus in football that it is far preferable…
