Ethiopia is the second-most populous country in Sub-Saharan Africa with a population of 96.5 million, and population growth rate of 2.5% in 2014.
One of the world’s oldest civilizations, Ethiopia is also one of fastest growing country in the world.
The country’s per capita income of $550 is substantially lower than the regional average (Gross National Income, Atlas Method).
The government aspires to reach middle income status over the next decade.

Archeologists have found the oldest known human ancestors in Ethiopia, including Ardipithecus ramidus kadabba (c. 5.8–5.2 million years old) and Australopithecus anamensis (c. 4.2 million years old). Originally called Abyssinia, Ethiopia is sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest state, and its Solomonic dynasty claims descent from King Menelik I, traditionally believed to have been the son of the queen of Sheba and King Solomon.
