Hitchhiking the Alps: Getting on the road (Day 1)

Day 1: Hamm – Munich, 600km.

It’s 8:10, I’m running around the house, checking if I didn’t forget anything important, worrying about what I should wear and about a lot of what ifs and if what I’m about to attempt is such a good idea.

8.20: Yup, best idea! It’s going to be a pretty hot day and I’ll be hitchhiking to Munich today, and continue towards the Alps from there, visiting friends, couch surfing and camping. With many hours of daylight, an easy, busy route, a tent in my bag and a coffee in my hand I’m ready for this adventure!

I have a semester ticket for the busses and trains in the whole state of NRW, so I wanted to take a train to a good place to get on the road to Munich…generally a good idea, but the first lesson I learned was: When you hitchhike, take advice and listen to…
